Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is considered a short-term therapy, because it is done for 10-20 sessions. CBT has been shown to be as effective as medication in treating mild to moderate depression.

7. Fish Oil

A study in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology claim turmeric can increase the levels of serotonin and other chemicals in the brain. The study on 38 people for six weeks, found that turmeric as effective as fluoxetine (Prozac) in reducing symptoms of depression.
Participants who consumed turmeric admitted only slightly feel the side effects of this plant, including sweating and sexual dysfunction, than those taking fluoxetine.

10. Yoga

Studies have shown yoga can overcome severe emotional distress and depression, reduces stress, hostility, anxiety, and improve energy, sleep quality, and well-being.
